[PBP] Down at The Dubliners' (Open!)
Characters: Shiranui Genma, Uchiha Sasuke, Aburame Shino
Setting: The Dubliners' (an Irish pub in Shinagawa)
Time: about 11pm
Open: Yes!
Style: Play-by-post

The pub was dim and smoky, like a good pub should be, and the music was as Irish as the atmosphere. The barkeep had settled on Boiled in Lead's Alloy, for the time, which meant that eventually, they'd get to 'Rasputin', and someone would kick over a table.

As promised, Genma was down at the end of the bar, in a Queen t-shirt, eating dango and drinking Murphy's. He'd just started, and was only about a pint down, so he still looked pretty stressed out from the day's work. There was nothing that got the adrenaline flowing quite like timed plastique.

He figured the explosion would be just loud enough to warrant a news flash, and it would probably show up on the television at the end of the bar, which was currently showing reruns of some comedy show from last year. There was no one he knew, here, yet. Hopefully, there'd be someone to laugh with him when the building came down flawlessly, like it was supposed to.

He sipped the stout and looked around the pub. Mostly foreigners. Maybe he'd take home some loudmouthed American girl, tonight.

((April 2: currently waiting on Shino. Maa... fuckit, this is a perfectly good scene. Jump on in.))

The Uchiha had gotten the message-- he wasn't really keeping tabs so much as being informed.

That's how he looked at it anyway.

Body still dressed in that suit-- he dare not let others catch him in something less than formal-- he had a reputation to upkeep.

Pushing into the smoke filled bar he frowned, knowing he would need this suit dry-cleaned also as the stink clung to clothing. Hat tipped forward just slightly he approached the bar, nodding to Genma he reached into his coat, digging out the vanilla envelope that would match the first he'd gave the other. "I trust it wont be long?"

The Uchiha was such a businessman.

He glanced over at the suit-clad Uchiha, who stood out like a sore thumb, amid the lazy, smoky, drunken stumblers who inhabited the rest of the bar.

"Not long at all," he said, raising the pint glass toward the television. "I expect to see it in full colour, within the hour."

Tapping on the glass, he waved the barkeep over. "Do you want anything?" he asked with a smile, before ordering another pint. "Drinks are on me, tonight. It's just that kind of night."
sadistic_yakuza on April 2nd, 2007 07:42 am (UTC)
" On you?" He cocked an amused brow as he leaned lightly against one of the barstools, " I would think with what I've paid you for this, the drinks are on me.." Glancing up for a moment he tipped his hat backwards slightly to let those dark orbs peer out at the other, one a dull grey in compairison to the others deep black, " I doubt they have Sake in a place like this..."

It wasn't often that Shino bothered with bars; they were loud, noisy, and considering the Aburame's lack of desire for alcohol and/or nicotine laden substances... largely pointless places. Still, apparently a hot spot for informants. Which was illogical and annoying, but an inescapable fact of life.

So Shino occasionally found himself in one, despite personal preference. Tonight was one such occasion.

Shino situated himself in one of the stools towards the end of the bar, placidly ordering himself whatever was on tap when asked (the kikai could break down the alcohol long before it would make him inebriated) while adjusting the sunglasses on the bridge of his nose.

He had the good graces to spare the other occupants of the bar a sideways glance, settling on the two men talking close by... And, low and behold, how odd. Smalltime bars seemed like petty business for big clan names like Uchiha.

Shino wordlessly took the mug of beer placed in front of him by the bartender and occupied himself with looking like he wasn't eavesdropping.

"Hey, if there's dango, there's probably sake. Hot or cold? I doubt it's good sake, but there should be something." He chose to ignore the comment about who was buying drinks, and left the bartender to explain the sake choices to the Uchiha.

He glanced over at the man who was still wearing sunglasses. That seemed a little bit peculiar for a dimly lit and smoky bar. Cop, maybe? He wasn't sure, but it was always good to be aware of one's surroundings. He nodded at the man, to let him know he'd been seen, and then returned his attention to his beer and dango.

Bartender was informed of the Uchihas choice in drinks, as he came to rest on the barstool, frowning a bit. Within the hour? He supposed he could deal with the suffocating thick smoke and the pointless prattle for long enough to make sure he was getting what he paid for.

" I see..."

Shino glanced blandly at Genma, returning the nod before sipping his drink. The discussion being had was not particularly specific, but with his informant absent thus far (not that the slippery bastard was guaranteed to show up at all), Shino had time to wait it out for the details.

Their conversation probably had precious little relevance to him, in all actuality, but he was never one to pass up on information, when it was milling in a bar right next to him.

... Too bad the beer tasted like crap.
Shiranui Genmaslithridden on April 2nd, 2007 08:05 am (UTC)
He smiled at the Uchiha and made certain his mouth was full before mumbling to him, ensuring that the chewing masked his lip movements. "We're being watched. With the glasses, behind you. He knows I know he's watching."

He sipped his beer and started to tell a story about his days in the bomb squad, to fill up the dead space in the conversation. "So, I used to work for the Riot Police, you know? And it always cracked me up how ofter the targets I was disarming were office buildings. People would get pissed off at a lawyer or an accountant, and decide to take the building out. I always wondered why it was never judges' houses or the tax offices..."
sadistic_yakuza on April 2nd, 2007 08:16 am (UTC)
" Hmmm.." Dark eyes didnt even flicker with the information, either he was not at all phased; or good at hiding it. " Is that so? Well I was never fond of general killing, I figure if one man wronged you, you kill that man. You don't kill a building of people, thats uneconomical."
iaburame on April 2nd, 2007 08:21 am (UTC)
Interesting.

Not, y'know... that interesting, but the Uchiha's conversation was somewhat more entertaining than being surrounded by civilians arguing over the latest sports scores.

Shino begrudgingly gulped down a bit more of his beer and turned to eye the door. Still no sign of his informant. Not entirely surprising, but no less annoying than it would have been were it unexpected. Oh well.

Adjusting his shades, Shino turned back to watch the images flickering across the television.
Shiranui Genmaslithridden on April 2nd, 2007 08:27 am (UTC)
"Exactly. You can't expect to even make a point if you take out a whole building. No one knows who you were mad at, or what point you were trying to make, because anyone who might have had a clue has just been reduced to a fine bloody mist." He nodded at the bartender as the man returned with their drinks.

Glancing at the television, he saw that the comedy was still on. Good. Another fifteen minutes, probably.

"I was always surprised at the idiocy of the common man."
sadistic_yakuza on April 2nd, 2007 08:31 am (UTC)
" Mmm.. regardless, no point in wasting lives.." He shook his head slightly, finger reaching up to nudge a bit of hair out of the way before a drink was taken. " I'd hate the idiocy, but the simple fact that most are morons which is what allows me to lead so easily,

like sheep, really."
Shiranui Genmaslithridden on April 2nd, 2007 08:39 am (UTC)
"Idiots are easy to lead, but without leaders, I'd have no job. I have to say that I'm thankful to have gotten into freelance when I did. I have a friend who lost part of his face a few months after I left the Riot Police. I keep trying to convince myself that it had nothing to do with the fact that I wasn't his partner anymore." He took a very large swallow of stout.

"Here's to men with sense, if not always taste. Without them, I'd be poor." He raised his glass in a merry toast.
sadistic_yakuza on April 2nd, 2007 09:02 am (UTC)
He was joined in the slight toast by a less enthusiastic Uchiha, this sort of thing wasn't really his style. Downing his cup of Sake he set it back on the bar feeling just the faintest haze as he glanced across towards the television before back to the other. " The past cant be changed, only people can mold the future."
Shiranui Genmaslithridden on April 2nd, 2007 09:08 am (UTC)
"I don't know that the future can be molded, either. It's not so easy on the hands, like plastique. The future is like a stone wall -- it changes depending on which parts you blow out, but you never know quite where all the faults in it are. The future, for all that it can be changed, is still not entirely predictable." He eyed the Uchiha slyly. "Never believe that a plan is flawless, and never put all your faith in one man. There will always be something you didn't see coming."

He wasn't trying to be patronizing, or to imply that his work might be slipshod, but to an ear expecting criticism, his words might be taken that way. He had merely slipped into that post-job zen state, in which all things were questions of philosophy. The beer was probbly helping with that. He finished it and ordered another, as well as seconds for the Uchiha.
sadistic_yakuza on April 2nd, 2007 09:20 am (UTC)
" Mmm.. the future will always be something that escapes even the brightest of men.." A smirk tipped the corner of his lips upwards, " I'm sure Yondaime could vouch for that.." A nod for the dead.

He finished the last of the dango, and left the skewer hanging from his mouth. "A good man. He died doing what he thought best."

He glanced up at the television just in time to see the news anchor cut in. There was no sound, but the tag line on the screen behind the woman said it all. 'Building collapses! Damage uncertain!' He twitched his thumb toward the screen without raising his hand from the bar.
